Training - portrait photography.
Shooting portraits in a studio environment, or elsewhere need not be daunting. In this course, we will teach you how to shoot great portraits, using either your own, or our equipment. If you have never worked in a studio before, we will show you the ropes using our facilities. We will train you how to take well-composed, technically competent portraits of your chosen subjects or models. When you leave, you will only need to practice your new learnt skills to gain valuable experience.
We have had photographers with no studio lighting experience at all learn how to effectively light and shoot their subject. On the course we will use up to four different lights at once, and cover placement and effective usage of the main types of studio lighting. You will learn how to illuminate both the background and the sitter. We cover posing and positioning of your subject too.
Tailored for you.
Each workshop is completely individualised to the person being trained. We can vary the content and depth of teaching to suit you personal learning needs, knowledge and experience. As well as the training on the day you will also get your own free copy of all of our tutorials, for future information and support; you'll also take a disk with all your pictures on it, plus you'll take home any Polaroids you've shot, and you'll also have full and completely free ongoing telephone support.
What do you cover?
You will learn about different types of camera set-up, and discuss which is best for you. We cover the various types of film, and of course digital. The training includes how to control lighting and the use of light and flash meters. We will look at creative lighting techniques including the use of hairlights and backlighting, how to create both high and low-key effects.
Studio facilities.
We have a wide range of flash equipment including 3x100-Joule flasheads, 2x400-Joule flasheads, 1x800-Joule flashheads, a 1200-Joule flashhead, a 2400-Joule generator flash, a 6000-Joule Generator flash and a 4800-Joule generator flash. As well as the usual softboxes and brollies, we have wide-angle, standard and high-intensity reflectors, 3 different types of honeycombs, a snoot and 2 focussing spotlights. We also have a couple of HMI lights. Our wide range of specialised equipment is essential for us because our studio handles a wide spectrum of commercial work ranging from food to fashion, but only very basic equipment is needed for fashion photography.
By attending one of our studio courses you will be able to save far more than the cost of the course, because you will know exactly which items of equipment you need to buy and, equally importantly, which items to avoid.
Cameras.
Our digital camera produces high quality images which can be seen immediately on computer, and which you can take home with you on disk. We have everything we need for our high-end commercial work, but we fully appreciate that you are unlikely to have similar facilities and our courses are ideal for people who have a minimum of equipment and who don't want to waste money buying items that they can manage without. One spin-off from attending our courses is that people who have been here are far less likely to waste money buying unsuitable equipment in the future.
How much do our models cost?
We will need to arrange for models, which you will have to pay for at cost. Fashion/portrait models charge £125 for a half day, which is the amount of time we recommend. If you prefer, you can bring your own model. You can now book your model on-line - please clickhere.
What will you need to bring with you?
Most people bring along a camera, but this is optional because you're welcome to use our equipment. Although we provide detailed course notes it's a good idea to bring a notebook and a pen.
How long does the Workshop last?
1 day, 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
When will the next Course be held?
Your course can be arranged for any time convenient to you, subject to our work diary.
How much will it cost?
£470. If models need to be employed this will cost extra.
